When morning sickness has taken on another level and has gone to the extreme, it is called hyperemesis gravidarum. HG (Hyperemesis Gravidarum) is a severe form of morning sickness and is characterized by severe nausea and vomiting and can lead to dehydration, weight loss and nutritional deficiencies.
Signs and symptoms of hyperemesis gravidarum:
* Severe nausea and vomiting
* Weight loss of 5% or more of pre-pregnancy weight
* Decrease in urination
* Dehydration
* Headaches
* Confusion
* Fainting
The cause of hyperemesis gravidarum is unknown, but may be hormone-related.
Although there are no known ways to completely prevent hyperemesis gravidarum, the following measures might help you get morning sickness relief and prevent it from becoming severe:
* Eating small, frequent meals
* Using a pressure-point wrist band
*Taking vitamin B6
*Crystallized Ginger or ginger hard candy
Because of the potential for severe dehydration and other complications, HG is generally
treated as a medical emergency and you will be hospitalized. I found an interesing article on HG which explains more about this condition and What to expect if ytou are hospitalized.
